Meet the Board
Your friendly League-Crew
As the QUBALI board, we take care of everything that comes up within the club: managing memberships and costs, providing information about the league, promoting the project, and overseeing match operations.
Our board is elected at the annual Delegates’ Assembly. After the board election in Leipzig, we increased the number of board members to six: Thomas from Leipzig, Christian from Düsseldorf, Stefan from Hamburg, Timo from Essen, Bastian from Cologne, and Sébastien from Karlsruhe.
We are all experienced queer badminton players of various levels and also play with our teams at QUBALI.

Christian
Governance
I’m a founding member and one of the initiators of QUBALI.
I’ve been playing badminton with passion for over 12 years, starting with the French sports club BAG Nantes.
Today, I play at SC Janus and OSC Düsseldorf, where my team, ‘Smash ‘n’ Awe,’ is based. Many of us are also active in the regular league play of the DBV.
As a board member, I am responsible for executive tasks and the internal organisation of the club’s work. Currently, I’m also focused on the data protection-friendly digitalisation of the club.
Stefan
Match Operations
I’m originally from the Rhineland and now live near Hamburg.
I started playing badminton at school and first got involved in the queer scene in 1999 with SC AufRuhr e.V.
Since 2000, I’ve been playing with the queer sports club Startschuss in Hamburg. Since then, I’ve participated in over 80 queer badminton tournaments and also helped organise several.
As the board member for match operations at QUBALI, I’m responsible for planning the season and ensuring everything runs smoothly on match days. I also make sure that the QUBALI match regulations are followed during play.
Timo
Website and Socials
I’m a founding member of QUBALI and have been involved from the start.
My badminton journey began in school, where I played in the school team for the Essen City Championships.
After a break, I joined Wattenscheider Badminton Club 1974 e.V. in 2016, playing there for six years and occasionally helping out in the second team.
In 2022, I joined the queer badminton community at SC AufRuhr e.V. and now play for ‘Pott Smashers I’ in QUBALI.
I am responsible for public relations, mainly handling social media and the website.
Sébastien
International
I am originally from France, but Karlsruhe has been my new home for over 15 years.
Like many of us, I discovered badminton during my school years, and thanks to the queer sports club Uferlos, I quickly found a community here where I feel comfortable.
In 2023, I started participating in tournaments, and last season I had the opportunity to compete for the first time with the Fächer Smasher in QUBALI.
On the board, I am responsible for supporting the international teams. I also ensure that clubs from border regions find their way into the league and feel just as welcome as I did back then.
Thomas
Membership
I’ve been living in Leipzig for over twenty years and playing badminton with ROSALÖWEN e.V. and in a private group.
I’ve also competed in local and queer tournaments, mainly at B-level.
I joined QUBALI in 2023 after discovering it at the XMAS tournament in Frankfurt. The team competition idea really resonated with us, so ROSA LÖWEN has been part of QUBALI since the first regular season in 2024.
On the QUBALI board, I’m responsible for membership, including managing team and player registrations, and I also reach out to clubs and players to encourage them to join our competition.
Bastian
Finance
Since 2013, I have been playing badminton at a queer club in Cologne. A friend took me to a training session back then, and I quickly became enthusiastic about the sport.
I have been playing in QUBALI since the 2024 season for “Team Rocket Köln” and, starting with the 2026 season, I will additionally take on the role of Head of Finance on the QUBALI board.
In this function, I take care of everything related to finances. This includes managing membership fees, reimbursing costs for hosting match days, and annual financial planning.
